Can make me laugh!
There are so many things to love about a hero. Countless personality traits and/or actions that make you—and of course any heroine—sigh or send heartbeats soaring.
One of my favorite things about any hero, no matter if he is light, dark, tall, average height, stocky or lean—oh, you get the idea—is a sense of humor. I’m not talking slap-stick comedy, but that twist of humor when the situation calls for it. Sometimes over the top, other times subtle, and at other times just a tease to provoke a smile.
Maybe the moment is tense and the heroine can’t take much more, but the hero can sense her dilemma and diffuses the situation with a twinge of humor. Or he’s just playful in general and throws in a splash of humor to get the heroine to loosen up or relax—or if he’s being naughty just to annoy her because he knows he can.
In Some Like it in Handcuffs, my hero Judson uses his subtle humor playfully with my heroine Sunny. She can get a bit sassy at times and he’ll toss a quick remark or tease her back down to earth. Although she tries to act like it annoys her, deep down she loves his playful manner and how he can get her to see the funny side to most situations.
What about you? What is the trait you enjoy most about the heroes between the pages or in real life?
Some Like it in Handcuffs is a sexy, light-hearted romantic suspense with humor! Here’s the blurb:
Sunny Kennedy, the only female in a family of blue blood male detectives, is determined to prove testosterone isn’t the only qualification required to solve a cold case. Handcuffed while undercover then taken to the precinct by an attractive detective, her domineering family demands she work with Detective Judson Blackwolf, or she’s off the case.
Judson Blackwolf thinks women in law enforcement should work behind the scenes. The prospect of working with his Captain’s sexy daughter doesn’t thrill him. He only agrees in hopes of solving the murder of his one time mentor’s daughter. Once the case is over, he’s moving to Montana to heal his wounds from the loss of his last partner.
But when their investigation takes a dangerous turn, Sunny and Jud soon realize their feelings for each other cannot be denied.
EXCERPT:
“This isn’t how I wanted it between us.” Judson grabbed the neckline of her sweater, dragging her body to meet his with a solid thump. Sunny licked her lips in answer to the question in his eyes. He lowered his head to move his mouth over hers.
Sunny closed her eyes, a small whimper escaping her lips. She didn’t want it like this either, but that wasn’t possible. Unable to resist her attraction she accepted it wasn’t an affair, or a long distance romance she craved, but for him to love her back. It was all or nothing for her. Her heart sank. She accepted this as their goodbye kiss.
With no thought to what was happening upstairs, Sunny rose up on her toes demanding more. Her lips pulsated against Judson’s. When his hand trembled against her cheek in a soft caress she lost touch with reality.
“Judson.” Sunny’s weakened body drifted farther into Judson’s as his fingers glided down her arms, pulling them to her sides where their fingers intertwined. He forced them behind her before his tongue thrust into her mouth.
Their bodies molded together, she heard her own heartbeat and his as well when he curved his fingers around her rear and squeezed.
That’s when the click of the handcuffs against her wrist connected her to the handle of the locked cupboard.
“What the hell…Judson?” She looked up at him, her knees shook, her body still inflamed with fever.
“Like I was saying, you wait here and I’ll go upstairs to check it out. Backup’s already been called, so you’re safe until your brothers arrive.” Judson winked before walking toward the steps to the third level. Once he reached them he turned toward her and smiled. “Gotcha,” he whispered with his notorious grin.

I love a guy with a sense of humor too, Christine. And I try to incorporate humor in the same way. Great excerpt!

Great post, Christine. A hero with a sense of humor is my fav, too.
-
Hi Jennifer..I'm so glad you enjoyed the book :) And you're right, a strong hero with a shoulder to lean on and hugging abilities is another great trait!
Leah & Diane, so glad you dropped by...glad to know we all enjoy humor in our heroes!
-
Love the excerpt, Christine. And I'm with you. There is nothing sexier than a hero with a humorous bite.

Awesome post, Christine. I agree whole heartedly. When writing a trilogy, I always make sure that at least one of my heros is both fun and funny! Can't wait to read Some Like it in Handcuffs. Best of luck to you!

My husband makes me laugh. That is one of the reasons that I was attracted to him. Thanks for the giveaway.

Rachel, I was attracted to my husband because he made me laugh too. I'm hoping when we're too old to do much more than hit the porch in a rocking chair, we'll at least be able to laugh :)
Thanks for coming by :)

I have to read your book! I love a hero who can make me laugh at myself because I'm too hard on moi. My hubby likes to 'get me going' on something and nudges to keep it going- much like a merry go round, the kid ones at the park you push and push it round. Then when I'm about ready to explode he'll laugh and ask if I'm wound up yet. I feel like a top spinning to a stop when he does that. I hate it really- not the kind of laughing at myself I mean.
-
LOL...your hubs sounds like mine...but I like to play it right back at him.
Thanks for coming by Calisa...I hope when you get the chance to read the book you enjoy it!

The hero definitely has to have a sense of humor. I love witty banter. I already have a copy of Some Like It In Handcuffs and it's fabulous!
-
I really loved this book and I really liked Judson so very much. :) As for my heroes, I love the humor, but I like those with the protective streak so much to the point the heroine rolls her eyes. Not sure why, but it seems endearing at times in certain stories.
-
Everytime I see this book I think - I need to read that because anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to laugh and hero who can make me laugh can make me do anything else he wants!
-
Thanks for the great post. This book sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it to see more of Judson, Sunny, and their banter.

I'm still happy that you enjoyed Sunny and Judson! And a protective male is an awesome hero, especially when the heroine can bring him down a notch with an eye roll..lol :) Glad you came by Melissa :)
Love your comment Casea! I hope when you get the chance to read Some Like it in Handcuffs you get a few chuckles and fall for Judson too!
Thanks Joanne! Sunny and Judson were so fun to write...I hope you enjoy the story :)

congrats on the new release! I'm the absolute same way... give me a guy w/ a sense of humor any day!

I like a man who can make me laugh too. I also like a man who is protective of those he loves. Great except

I like a man with a sense of humor, but for me, it's all about loyalty. If a man isn't loyal, I'm out.
-
I love a man who can make me laugh. Def a huge plus :D
In fiction, however, I do love the broody, beast-like hero (like Beast from Beauty and the Beast). I'm not too sure I'd like him in real life, though. I think he'd annoy the hell out of me!
Thanks for the great post and wonderful giveaway :D

This sounds like a fun, sexy, suspense story. I loved the excerpt, although there are better things to do with handcuffs, lol.
I guess some of my favorite traits in heroes (whether in books or real-life) are intelligence, dependability, responsibility, caring, thoughtful, alpha-ness. A sexy guy who can make me laugh one minute, and see stars another.

Fun post and excerpt, Christine. I love a man with a sense of humor. And I love it when the hero is the first to fall in love.
-
Hi Denise! Glad you enjoyed the excerpt and hope you enjoy the book when you get a chance to read it :)
Hi Lisa, thanks for coming by! Happy to hear you liked the excerpt...hope you enjoy the book.
Cassandra, I love Beauty and the Beast, but I'm with you...in real life I'd probably bop him over the head and tell him to get a grip! lol Thanks for coming by.
LOL @ June...you're right, there are always better things to do with handcuffs. I love the traits you look for in a hero...nicely done!
Hi Ceri, I'm with you...it's great to see the hero fall in love first...that bit of sensitive side with the alpha-ness!
-
Great post, and I'm with you--I love a sense of humor. I also like a little bit of klutziness.
-
Great post & excerpt! My favorite trait with a guy: one who's confident enough to share the lead with the girl. LOVE guys who're so secure in themselves they don't have to constantly prove how big, tough, and smart they are. :D
-
Liz, I love the klutziness too...if written well it can really make you fall for the hero a lot quicker.
Well said Natasha...a guy who is confident enough to share the spotlight is a strong man in his own right...and I think sometimes humor ties in with that...if they can laugh at themselves all the better!
-
LOVE a hero with a surprise sense of humor. The darker the character, the funnier the humor. I'm glad I stopped by today!
-
Great post, Christine! My favorite hero quality is the ability to be seductive, particularly when the hero is a bad-boy. I love bad-boys! ;)

Fantastic post, Christine! I have this book and it is awesome!!! I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it so definitely leave your email address so you can win it or hop on over and buy it! You're gonna love the hero! My favorite hero trait is one who knows when I simply need a hug :) Love that shoulder to lean on because I'm too stubborn to ask, lol.
