Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine
-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?
Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?
For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.
Goodreads Summary
What if you drowned, but didn’t die? Delaney Maxwell fell through the ice and spent eleven minutes under the frigid water of a local lake before her best friend Decker was able to save her. Although expected to remain in a coma for the rest of her life, she wakes up after only a few days with brain damage that doesn’t affect her mind or body. Delaney isn’t out of the woods yet though, someone attacks her in the hospital. They assume that her stifled brain created the violence as a response to her accident. Delaney then questions her own grip on reality after a force inside her pulls her toward a dying patient at the hospital. When she is able to leave the hospital, Delaney begins trying to return to the normal life her parents crave for her. Delaney is constantly drawn to the dying and struggles to understand her relationship with Decker and a new acquaintance who shares her sixth sense, Troy Varga. Troy went through a similar experience and is able to reassure Delaney at first, but then he reveals a darker, less expected side that frightens Delaney. Can Delaney survive after eleven minutes underwater?
Tailored to a young adult audience, Fracture is a romantic, suspenseful novel. Teen girls and young women can relate to Delaney’s struggle as she tries to return to normalcy and navigate the changing relationships in her life. This novel kept my attention from start to finish. I was never bored while reading and I never was able to predict what would come next, unexpected events will heighten the readers' anticipation. The author engages the reader through the characters, particularly Delaney. This book is recommended to teen/young adult readers.

About Me
- Krystal Larson

- I'm a young college student who has probably read over 5000 books over the course of my short life; some of the books were classics, some of the books were terrific, and some of the books were...misses. Even with the latter part I will always believe in the power of books to completely remove the reader from his/her present reality. Long Live Books! I would love to read and review books from just about any genre. To contact me: edysicecreamlover18 AT gmail DOT com Thank you for your interest! At this time, I can only accept paperback or hardcover. The finished review copies I receive are either kept in my personal collection or donated to several libaries, schools, or charities-I have no control over the finished review copies after donation. *I claim no ownership for any images used on this site.
