Grace is the first character the reader will have the pleasure of meeting. She is calm, cool, and collected. She was adopted at a young age and thinks nothing of it. She and her brother, Thane, are adjusting to a new life in San Francisco.
Gretchen is the second character the reader will meet. She is rough, brusque, hardcore, and strong. She is the "strong female lead." The first time the reader meets her, she is busy fighting off a monster. She traveled through the foster systems until meeting Ursula, her mentor and benefactress.
Greer is the typical rich girl. The thought of adoption has never crossed her mind. She is busy pushing classmates around during a school project. She is haughty and denies that Gretchen and Grace might be her sisters. She is also the very last character the readers will meet, towards the end of the novel.
Grace and Gretchen meet each other quite by chance. Grace, having moved to a large city, is now observing monsters and unsure if she is going insane or if she is one of the few who can see them. Gretchen, with a little coercion, takes Grace under her wing and tries to show her the ropes to fighting these monsters. She also informs Grace that they are the descendants of Medusa-who is not at all like the terrible monster described in the myths.
While the triplets are meeting and adjusting to each other, life continues. Grace may have found a potential love interest, as has Gretchen. Greer appears more concerned with appearances than monsters. The reader will love the author's style of writing, the smooth transitions as the story is told from one sister to another. The events are fast-paced and exciting, specifically the fight scenes. The love interests add a little spice and the triplets are fun to get to know. This book is perfect for teens/young adults who have enjoyed Tera's writing before and love books based on mythology with a hint of romance and intrigue.
