Hope Is Love by Sylvia Hubbard

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Meet Hope, but most people call her Jona. She was a person living in the world, but not living on the inside.
Bad things happen to good people and Hope was the person we lose in the system and she grows up just going from day-to-day trying to make a dollar out of the pennies she find.
But she’s smart on the street. She keeps to herself, but she’s just there. A body without a soul and she’s going nowhere.
Then meet James from LOVE LIKE THIS .
He’s one of the bad characters that once the story is over you really don’t give a fig about. Now he’s lost again and you’ll find him here in HOPE IS LOVE.
Can they find what they are looking for?

Goodreads Summary

Hope/Jona is an interesting character who will draw the reader in within the first few chapters. Jona is living on the streets and though she has good sense, she needs something else. Her character will come off as resilient and strong, though she does display some vulnerability. Sometimes, her character may seem a little odd or "off," when she starts talking to or doing the deed with other characters. James' character is pretty hard to like, particularly when one learns of his past. He does come off as "real" and like someone the reader may know in real life. The other characters are from a variety of backgrounds and interesting, some the reader is sure to like while others are more of a hit or miss.

The plot itself was pretty good. The Goodreads description is more or less accurate. The plot seemed fast-paced in most parts, some parts were lagging a little though. The best portion is learning about the Detroit, what it could be like to live on the streets; the author did a terrific job of explaining and providing detail for those plot points. Overall, the erotic scenes sometimes seemed a little too gritty, but the characters were interesting, this book is recommended to adult readers.

I like the title of this book. Hope really is love. The synopsis for this book is very telling. Bad things always seem to happen to good people, but the good people will always find a way to fight through it all.
