In the battle against the vampiric Ticks, humanity was slowly but certainly headed for extinction. For months, twin sisters Lily and Mel had been quarantined” with thousands of other young people being harvested for their blood—food for the Ticks. Finally escaping with a few friends, the twins are separated—and must continue the fight on their own . . .
After making it to a resistance base camp in Utah, Lily learned to survive at all costs. But when a Tick attack decimates the fighters, Lily and her pregnant friend, McKenna, decide to make the hard trek north to Canada—and safety.
Meanwhile, Mel is being taught how to survive by the very vampire that turned her. Living without her sister is hard, but dealing with the fact that her autism was cured by the vampire bite is an even bigger challenge.
But when a monstrous betrayal places Lily in mortal danger, Mel must set out to find her, save her, and begin to unravel the empire of destruction that the Ticks have built.
Goodreads Summary
Can you imagine living in a farm where you regularly have blood removed from you to feed a population of vampires? This was Lily and Mel's reality for the longest time. Lily and her pregnant friend travel in an attempt to find safety while Mel is living and learning how to be a vampire. I loved the little portion where her autism was cured when she turned into a vampire because that had me imagining a whole host of things vampiric blood could potentially cure.
I loved how much action was packed into a relatively short book. The reader will get so attached to Lily and Mel only to have their relationships change. Mel's character has definitely grown/altered, but there are still many remnants of her past to form a connection to her. I loved Lily's never-leave-anyone-behind mentality. She was so brave in aiding her pregnant friend and trying to find her lost love. I cannot wait for the next book in the series and recommend this book to young adult/teen readers.

I am not usually a huge fan of vampires, so I don't know about this one.

I have to say this one sounds interesting. I'm not a huge fan of vampires. I prefer werewolves, hehe, but I might have to look this one up. Fantastic review, thank you! =)

Ugh! I keep forgetting to buy this series! The need to read Farm first before I get to Lair. Glad you gave the book four stars.

- I'm a young college student who has probably read over 5000 books over the course of my short life; some of the books were classics, some of the books were terrific, and some of the books were...misses. Even with the latter part I will always believe in the power of books to completely remove the reader from his/her present reality. Long Live Books! I would love to read and review books from just about any genre. To contact me: edysicecreamlover18 AT gmail DOT com Thank you for your interest! At this time, I can only accept paperback or hardcover. I have a copy of The Farm but I've never really paid any attention to what it's about. I'm glad I stumbled upon your review because even though I'm burnt out with vampire books, this certainly has an interesting premise.
Thanks for sharing!
