Three children embark on a journey to find their brother, and in the process may find themselves.

Goodreads Summary

Book Description:  Aliya Fisher knows nothing about her true heritage until a vindictive sorceress kidnaps her brother and sister. The young adventurer must take up her birthright, battle strange creatures, and find the Sword of Senack if she hopes to best the witch. But even if Aliya finds the famed weapon and survives the perilous oceanic journey, the enchantress is far more than she appears. How does one defeat an immortal who lusts for revenge?

Review:

Stilson creates great characters in her undersea world.  Vander, the pirate-loving little brother, is my favorite.  However, there are so many others to mention: Iron Blood, Bishop Fish, handsome Calder, evil Constance, wise Fadon, cruel Malin, and Hivis with his colorful makeover for Aliya, Sky, and Vander.  The characters are easy to get to know, though there are a lot of them.  The reader will here from a few perspectives before the book settles on a few main characters.  The plot is mostly fast-paced and the book is well-written.  At times, the plot is difficult to understand, but there is plenty of detail offered by the author to help the reader catch up.  The underwater worlds and adventures are scary, fun, and intriguing.  Middle school readers will probably love to read about this fantasy world, the Fisher family, the pirates, and all the creatures in the adventure.
