At first glance, this book is a little unusual and a reader may not expect to like Melody at all. However, Melody is a very interesting character with a few unusual problems. Her daughter has died, but isn't all the way gone and Kayla, her other daughter, is on-again off-again with a baseball player. It was interesting to read about their different characters and watch as the author developed them all in an interesting fashion. None of these characters were perfect, but they all stood out. I felt like I really knew them by the end of the novel.
My favorite character was Melody. She did want to be a good mother even though she lacked motivation, at times. Kayla was an ok character. I had a hard time liking her throughout the book, but I appreciated how she added to the book. I felt really bad for Renee. Her life was cut too short at a young age.
The plot was certainly interesting. This book highlights mental illness and how the issues affect family and friends. I think the author did a great job of portraying the illness. Overall, this book is recommended to adult readers.
