Building a World…
With The Fallout about to be released, I find myself wondering what readers will think about the setting, because it is quite different from that in the first book. Readers ask me all the time about the room with the yellow door in The Compound. The compound itself was quite static. By that I mean the reader was privy to basically the whole layout: the rooms, what was in them, where they were located. And that wouldn’t do. Not at all. I needed a secret. I just knew that there had to something that made Eli uncomfortable, and maybe something he didn’t know about, which then gave the reader something they didn’t know about and perhaps made them uncomfortable. (Because a comfortable reader is a bored reader. And I didn’t want that.) So I came up with the room with the yellow door. At first I had no idea what was behind that door. And then I figured it out, and I love how uncomfortable the contents of that room make the readers. Without giving anything away, I will say that while The Fallout doesn’t have a room with a yellow door, there is a room that, I suspect, will create a lot of discomfort among readers…
Never heard of this series before but it sounds creepy, looks creepy. Right up my alley. Thanks for sharing.
