The Beauty Book by Nancy Rue

Thursday, May 17, 2012

In a society so focused on the idea that beauty matters, young girls can find it difficult to figure out what true beauty is all about. Through this unique and creative book just for tween girls, Nancy Rue answers common questions girls ask in this often-curious stage of their lives. Filled with fun magazine-type quizzes and imaginative activities, The Beauty Book offers relevant information about everything from great hair to tattoos, plus much more. But most importantly, each and every page highlights the message that God-confidence is beautiful.

Goodreads Summary

This brilliant, religious book is full of tips, tricks, and confidence for young girls.  In our society today, girls are constantly being bombarded by images that send the message that they are unattractive.  The Beauty Book does the opposite of this.  This book tells girls that they are special, unique, and beautiful.  Also important, Nancy Rue answers questions that girls experiencing puberty often have.  The cheery messages, fun quizzes, and responses to questions make this book easy and enjoyable to read.
Many middle school aged girls would benefit from reading this book.  The reminder that they are special and that they should be kind to the people that surround them could really help making a tricky of life easier.  Although some readers may be turned off by the religious messages, most will probably not be bothered.  It is hard to argue with an overall message of “You are beautiful.”  This book earns five out of five stars.
