Goodreads Summary
Amelia Gladstone, according to Aunt Neda who knows her best, always helps the hungry, the hurt, and the heart-broken. Amelia sets sail to find a new life, and possibly a husband, in America; but before she boards the Titanic, she sees a tattered, beaten man being dragged from the ship. Moved to help someone again, she gives Quentin Walpole her absent cousin’s ticket. The ticket and her compassion change the life of this prodigal son of wealthy, kindly C.J. Walpole.
Goyer’s details about travel aboard the elegant yet doomed Titanic create a clever picture for us readers. She deftly weaves interesting, entertaining dialogue, romance, Christian wisdom, friendship, and a mystery about Amelia’s mother into 317 pages. Who hasn’t been fascinated by the story of the Titanic? Stories about brave wealthy men, the orchestra that played until the ship sank, etc…. have captured the imaginations of everyone at some point. The Prodigal Son parable adds to the drama, but with a twist that surprised me…but also reminded me that I could never be that selfless! The characters seem almost too good to be true; however, I would much rather read about sacrifices and qualities to admire than about dark, selfish, mean-spirited ambitions and actions. If you enjoy optimistic, spiritual, historical fiction, you will enjoy this story.
