This book picked up right where the last one left off.  Malini is the main character, she is the reader's guide.  This book is almost more concerned with Malini's potential relationship (or loss of relationship) than the plot of the first novel.  Mara is the new girl, she appears to be trying to steal Jacob's affections and will do anything to catch his attention.  Malini is understandably not pleased.  She goes to great, at times almost humorous, lengths to prevent any love between the other two.

Malini is a fun character, she entertains the reader.  She is smart, caring, and humorous.  Jacob is still brave, sometimes a tad standoffish, and smart.  Mara is a little bit of an annoyance-especially to a reader rooting for Malini. 

The events are fairly fast-paced, the book ends in an interesting way, and the plot if just as good as before.  This book is recommended to young adults/teens.
