For Kate Bennet, surviving the car wreck that killed her parents means big changes and even bigger problems. As she begins to see auras and invisible people, Kate must learn to trust Patrick O'Donnell, a handsome Guardian, or risk her life being overrun with Demons. She soon realizes that both she and her heart are in big-time trouble.

Goodreads Summary

The reader will first meet Patrick in the prologue and a different time period.  Patrick is portrayed as the pacifier; he is brave and calm.  The book then fast forwards to the present and Kate, the main character.  Kate and her sisters are still grieving over the abrupt death of their parents.  To make matter worse, Kate has discovered she might be a psychic.  The only other person she entrusts with this knowledge is tough-as-nails
"Lee", her new best friend.  Kate lives with her grandparents, who may tiptoe around her-worried that she is depressed.  With so many adjustments in her life, Kate has a hard time figuring out and dealing with her newfound power.  Patrick shows up at Kate's school.  He is enigmatic, protective, and stoic.  Kate soon learns that she needs him more than she realized, her family is harangued by Demons.  The story takes off from there.

The characters are all very likable, the reader won't have a hard time connecting to Kate.  Kate, too, is fairly stoic and intelligent.  Patrick rounds out the book.  The secondary characters are easy and fun to get to know, for the most part.  The events in this book, particularly in the middle, are fast-paced and exciting.  The book ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, there will be a sequel!  This book is recommended for young adults/teens who enjoy mystery books and thrillers with a touch of romance.
