Melissa Marr

  Faery Tales & Nightmares

And

The Arrivals

Synopsis:
Dangerous promises and beguiling threats swirl together in a dozen stories of enchantments dark and light by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr. Uncanny and unexpected creatures appear from behind bushes, rise from beneath the seas, or manifest from seasonal storms to pursue the objects of their attention—with amorous or sinister intent—relentlessly.

From the gentle tones of a storyteller’s cadences to the terror of a blood sacrifice, tales of favorite characters from Marr’s Wicked Lovely novels mix with accounts of new characters for readers to fall in love with...or to fear.

Lush, seductive, and chilling, Melissa Marr’s stories revel in the unseen magic that infuses the world as we know it.

Synopsis:
Chloe walks into a bar and blows five years of sobriety. When she wakes, she finds herself in an unfamiliar world, The Wasteland. She discovers people from all times and places have also arrived there: Kitty and Jack, a brother and sister from the Wild West; Edgar, a prohibition bootlegger; Francis, a one-time hippie; Melody, a mentally unbalanced 1950s housewife; and Hector, a former carnival artist.

None know why they arrived there--or if there is way out of a world populated by monsters and filled with corruption.

Just as she did in Graveminder, Marr has created a vivid fantasy world that will enthrall. Melissa Marr's The Arrivals is a thoroughly original and wildly imagined tale about making choices in a life where death is unpredictable and often temporary.

I would love to meet Cleopatra. She was a woman before her time that lived in a very advanced country. History is written by the winners, in her case, Rome. I would love to see her side of what occurred in her life. She strikes me as an amazing female figure that does not give in. She did hold off Rome for 20 years after all...

  1. I'd love to meet Jane Austen to see what her life was really like. There are so many rumors about whether she almost married, why she died, etc. I'd love to know the truth!

  1. Princess Diana! She was such an amazing person!

  1. I would like to meet Shostakovich, the Russian composer :)
I really admire not only his music, but also his audacity

  1. Freud... he'd be an interesting person to talk to.

  1. I'd want to meet Gilgamesh, though he may not be real and if he was, we probably wouldn't have very much in common...

Past: Elizabeth Bathory, the blood countess. I believe she holds the record for a woman serial killer, killing somewhere in the hundreds. I find her disturbingly fascinating.

Present: Heath Ledger. There are a lot of actors whose lives were cut short, but Heath had such a wonderful smile and he was a truly gifted actor.

If we're talking authors, I'd want to meet Mary Shelley and thank her for writing one of my favorite pieces of classic literature.

And if we're talking historical figures/actors/singers/etc... Rod Serling. I've met Carol Serling and that was incredible, but I'd love to pick Rod's brain, and discuss his incredible imagination with him. His twisted Twilight Zone endings are just.. brilliant!

I would want to meet Edgar Allan Poe because he's my favorite classic author and his work sparked my love of Gothic and supernatural literature! Thanks for another awesome giveaway!

I never have a good answer for this. Maybe Jesus, cause hey... wouldn't that just be awesome?

  1. Ooh, that's a tough one to answer!! I *think* my top choice would be Queen Elizabeth. I can never seem to read enough books about her (well, mostly historical fiction, but still...), and she is pretty much endlessly fascinating to me. I cannot imagine how she managed to overcome the whole "being a woman" thing...cause you know, that was quite a liability back then for 99% of women!!
