A Beauty Refined by Tracie Peterson

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Phoebe Von Bergen is excited to accompany her father when he travels from Germany to purchase sapphires in Montana. Little does she know that her father's plans--for the gemstones and his daughter--are not what they seem.
Ian Harper, a lapidary working in Helena, finds the young woman staying at the Broadwater Hotel more than a little intriguing. Yet the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that her family story is based on a lie--a lie she has no knowledge of. And Ian believes he knows the only path that will lead her to freedom.

Meeting Ian has changed everything. Phoebe is determined to stay in America, regardless of her father's plans. But she may not be prepared for the unexpected danger as the deception begins to unravel.

Goodreads Summary

I can't stand the thought of a relative seriously lying to me, much less an elaborate and long-lived lie. Phoebe is in the dark about her dad's true intentions, but that doesn't stop her from having fun in America. Phoebe gets the opportunity to meet a new land and Ian.  Ian and her strike up a friendship and eventually a relationship. The more Ian gets to know Phoebe the more he realizes that there is more going on than meets the eye.

Phoebe's character was initially of a spoiled, wealthy woman.  When she moved to America she evolved to be a little more resilient and tough.  Her relationship with Ian made her care more for others and mature a little bit. Ian was a gentleman with a rough side. He knew how to work hard and make a living. Their characters meshed well together.  I was able to mostly predict the ending, but the romance and cadence of the novel was sweet.  This would be a fun read for fans of Tracie Peterson.
