A Darkness Strange and Lovely by Susan Dennard

Thursday, November 21, 2013
Following an all-out battle with the walking Dead, the Spirit Hunters have fled Philadelphia, leaving Eleanor alone to cope with the devastating aftermath. But there’s more trouble ahead—the evil necromancer Marcus has returned, and his diabolical advances have Eleanor escaping to Paris to seek the help of Joseph, Jie, and the infuriatingly handsome Daniel once again. When she arrives, however, she finds a whole new darkness lurking in this City of Light. As harrowing events unfold, Eleanor is forced to make a deadly decision that will mean life or death for everyone.

Goodreads Summary

I couldn't wait for this novel as I loved the first in the series so much!  Marcus has returned with more trouble for Eleanor.  She has to run to try to escape him and regroup.  Along the way, Eleanor meets someone who changes her way of thinking about necromancers.  The  character the reader meets who changes Eleanor is fascinating...he knew her late brother Elijah and has plenty to tell her.  As soon as Ellie reunites with her Spirit Hunters, she feels more powerful and immediately begins making "silly" decisions.

I do like Ellie's character, but she makes me want to smack my head when I read about her.  She is very headstrong and brave.  It's not the end of the world, but she definitely doesn't think before she acts.  I didn't think much of Ollie, Elijah's friend.  He didn't seem very trustworthy to me and I often felt like he was holding back information.  This book is a continuation from the first and just as good.  I recommend this book to young adult/teens.

I've yet to get started on this series. Not really sure I'll like it. Great cover though.

I actually just finished this one in ebook format... I felt that the first book was better, and though this one wasn't quite as I expected, I still enjoyed it... Some of the darker elements surprised me...

I enjoyed the first one more than I thought I would, so I am looking forward to getting to this one. It definitely wasn't zombies like you would think. Great review!

This cover is so, so pretty. I haven't read the first book in the series but it is on my list. I'm interested in necromancers so I really need to start reading this series. Great review, thank you! =)
