The main character's voice is this novel's greatest strength. She was endearingly honest, even to a fault, when it came to hard topics. This book discusses the sale of wives to other men, the tensions between the natives and immigrants, etc... Billy Bah was an intriguing character with a strong voice. The reader will come to respect her and want her opinion. She goes between America and her home in Greenland. The struggle she experiences as someone different in an unfamiliar world and someone who has been elsewhere in her homeland are interesting. The reader will feel sad with the character when she loses her parents and be as happy as she is when she is in Greenland. I loved the imagery presented in the novel and how detailed the author was with the settings. It's hard to describe this book without giving too much away, but the reader is guaranteed an fast-paced and well-researched read. This book is recommended for teen/young adult readers.
