  1. I am captivated by the characters most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I usually love strong heroines, bad boys, and a great mystery or life-changing event!

    Thanks,
    Leanne

    ReplyDelete
  3. Plot twists and very, VERY good written love triangles.

    ReplyDelete
  4. A good story line and believable characters.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It's got to have a mixture of good plot, decent characters, and also a decent setting. I'm picky. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  6. I love well developed characters, an unpredictable story and great world building if appropriate. Romance helps too!

    ReplyDelete
  7. The characters are very important but i like to read about all the little details that could make the book that much more interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The writing is what makes it captivating for me. If the author can suck me in to a book even when it is a cliche plot or the same old vampires then you know its good.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Initially, its a combination of the cover, the blurb and what others are saying about it.

But then when I'm reading, its how well the author draws me into the world of the book. Characters run it a close second.

    Thanks for this giveaway opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good world building always captivates me. Stories don't always have to be intense for me to enjoy them, but when they are, they are often the ones I don't want to put down.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think the characters are very important to captivate the reader. Doesn't matter if the story line is UH-MAZING, if the characters aren't interesting enough, or strong enough, then I won't be able to stand them and I'll give up before I even start.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good characters, which feel real... good writing, being a good page-turner xD

    ReplyDelete
  13. What captivates me is when writers capture real emotion and draw you into the characters' conflict.

    ReplyDelete
  14. World building, something original. That's what captivates me the most, if the plot is cliched, I can't stand it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The writing has to draw me in. I need to be able to lose myself in the world inside the story and with the characters. Also, something that is original and/or unusual helps too. Thanks for the EPIC giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great characters are what pull me in! I love characters that are flawed and go through emotional journeys, which is something that also draws me to continue reading a story.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lovable and believable characters is what captivates me. I love bad boys too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Got have suspense and definitely a lovable bad boy

    ReplyDelete
  19. Descriptions. Like a LOT of descriptions. And an interesting plotline~

    ReplyDelete
  20. No whiny heroines. They have to be strong and capable. Or at least developed.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Amazing worldbuilding that make me feel like I'm there; deep characters that make me feel like I know them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. The story is believable detailed and draws you in from the first page

    ReplyDelete
  23. First of all, the cover. Then, the blurb. After start reading it, the characters and the situations, even if it's a paranormal, or fantasy book, they have to be "normal". Credible. Real. That's what I like. I want a book to be as original as possible. The plot doesn't have to remind me another book. And that can catch my attention so much, that hurts me to put it down, si I'll never do until I read it all! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. for me a book is captivating when I can visualize the story as I read. The more descriptive the text and writing style the better visual picture you can get.

    Miranda

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  26. There's a wow factor in some books that make them beautiful and fascinating. Definitely a story that I can relate to. Books with depth. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  27. When I'm reading a story the characters and the storyline itself are what draws me in and keeps me reading. Without strong characters I tend to drift away from the book and have trouble picking it back up and getting into it. Thanks for this amazing giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great characters make a book hands down. I'll read about a strongly written character doing just about anything.

    ReplyDelete
  29. good story, beatiful cover and great characters :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. The characters! Always the characters. A good story helps too....

    ReplyDelete
  31. The characters, teh setting and a lot i can't guess after a few pages

    ReplyDelete
  32. It is a mix of good character development and plot. Without alot of both, the book suffers and I am not drawn into it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think it's a good combination of good story, gripping prose and a theme that appeals to the reader.
Thanks for this awesome chance! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. If a story is really good, that it makes you lost in another world. Great giveaway :) thank you

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like the characters- if they are written well- I feel like I know them.
Awesome contest- thank you for being so generous.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Adventure. Fantasy. The first page. I'll often times pick a book to read based on how I feel about the first page. Get the ball rolling, and then fill in the blanks.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The plot, storyline and the characters.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Characters are compelling to me but usually what keeps me captivated is the storyline itself.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The book captivates me through its lovely cover ( I admit, I sometimes judge a book by its cover), the synopsis, hot fictional boys (to-good-to-be-true-and-are-swoon-worthy boys) and heroines that can stand on their own. Thanks for the giveaway! Happy love month!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  44. The stories in books are so different from my life. I get to live through them and have thousands of different lives, some good, some bad. It's amazing :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Engaging characters and a strong plot :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. For me, it's characters. Plot, writing, scene setting; none of that matters unless you have well developed, engaging characters.

    Thanks for the chance ^^

    ReplyDelete
  53. I like books with small chapters. Makes me always want to read "just one more"...

    ReplyDelete
  54. The plot has to be intriguing and I must be able to get a sense of the storyline within the first few chapters. The book has to be well written and the characters have to be well developed and interesting.
A completely captivating book would have all those elements.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  64. For me it is all about the relationship of the main characters. That is what hooks me into a story every time

    ReplyDelete
  65. Strong heroines and a good thrilling fiction are my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  66. For me, it's about the characters first, though an unusual setting and beautiful prose are helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  85. characters I want to read more about

    ReplyDelete
  86. The characters and plot
    marypopmom (at) yahoo (dot) com

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think the author makes the book captivating because the author creates the story. The world in the book is also the author's world and if she/he is not captivated by it, how could anyone else be? The author is the reason the characters are so engaging and if the author doesn't feel like she is one with her characters, then they are, most likely, going to seem flat. That's my opinion anyway :).

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think the book is the theme, because it clearly I have to draw attention to read it apart if I know the author already are more or less going to be written as

    ReplyDelete
  89. If the book has a compelling storyline and just as compelling main characters! In my books, that's what makes a book so amazing!

Thanks for the awesomesauce giveaway! :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  92. I like strong character, with deep and soul. Also a good story, but even if it's a weak one good character make them better (but if the story is bad most of the times the character are too)

    ReplyDelete
  93. A good, strong protagonist and an unpredictable plot!

    ReplyDelete
  94. the small details...the ones that make you feel like you're right there, like you would feel if you were that character.

    ReplyDelete
  98. The character and a good plot is what captivates me.

    ReplyDelete
  99. What captivates me the most in a book are the characters and their personalities. I could have the plot and I could dislike the genre but if the characters are these snarky, funny people than I fall for them and nothing else matters.. Well, okay.. the plot matters a lot and the genre too but I fall for the characters and the world they live in. That's why I have a favorite age group I like to read in and a favorite type of characters. If that even makes sense..
Anyway, thanks for the incredible giveaway and for making it international!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Thank you for this amazing amazing giveaway.

I think that well developed, interesting characters really help a book be captivating. I have found that even when there is a lull in the story line or even if it starts going off in a direction that I'm not liking, I'll still stick with the book if I love the main character. And those books that have a fantastic storylines, but where the characters are lacking, I have a harder time sticking through it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  106. I always like a lot of action and romance!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  108. the characters and the story line definitely

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  110. I am captivated by the words. The syntax. The thought. The beauty.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm captivated by well-rounded characters and a strong plot.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Interesting plot and believable characters.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I find different things captivating: good characters, excellent writing, snappy and witty dialogue, a unique and interesting plot. Not every book has all of these elements, but if I find any combination, I'll usually like the novel.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Plot and characters, with a few poetic little descriptions scattered here and there :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Thank you tor the awesome giveaway......

    ReplyDelete
  116. This giveaway is awesome, thank you!!!

I love deeply developed characters and a richly detailed setting.

    ReplyDelete
  117. The interaction between the characters. I think that it has to start with a special interaction to captivate me

    ReplyDelete
  118. Amazing characters and their interactions, awesome world-building, thick and juicy plots, mystery and suspense, creepiness, a little bit of romance..... There are so many things that need to be in a book to make it UNPUTDOWNABLE. The recipe for a great book is longer than any recipe for any food or dessert on the planet. A book can be good, but it takes something special to make it great.

    ReplyDelete
  119. a combination of likable characters and an awesome storyline!

    ReplyDelete
  120. The ability to take me to another place and time.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Characters for me.

    ReplyDelete
  122. A book is captivating when the universe is dragging you into the book... Thanks a lot for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love books that takes me away from reality and let's me focus on something else for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  124. For me book is captivating when it has at elast 50% of action or mystery inside.. I can't be captivated just by simply romance book >.<

    ReplyDelete
  125. Interesting, well developed characters (esp. the narrator/protagonist) and an intriguing premise. :)

    ReplyDelete
  126. I am captivated by the relationships, whether they be romantic or friendship. If they are well written, I will probably love the book. Going further, if the book spends a lot of time with the MC by his or her self, then I will probably not like the book.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Real relationships!!! REAL ways that people connect. No whiny poor me type, girls. No dark and mysterious boys.

    ReplyDelete
  128. For me it comes down to how well written it is. How well the writer creates the world they are portraying, often even while asking the reader to suspend belief or reality. It has to draw me in to that world completely.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You can never go wrong with a great plot combined with well written characters.

    ReplyDelete
  130. The characters and the scenery the author paints on the reader's mind :D

    ReplyDelete
  131. What makes a book captivating?

Well, a great plot, for one. Can't stand awful plots. However, I feel that a great author will sometimes tip the balance in favor of the book.

Also, the characters. Cardboard characters are the most awfulest things in existence.

...Well, it all depends on the book. Every book is different with its appeal, and every book has different things that can hook onto the reader's heart.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The adventure you get from a book is what makes it.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I think love triangles(when done right) and enoyable loveable characters (:

    ReplyDelete
  134. For me its the characters and plot. Its the story that grabs you and wont let you go :)

    ReplyDelete
  135. Its originality.
While the story fresher, more interesting is. The characters are the reason why you fall for a book.
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  136. A book that keeps me interested and invested in the character's struggle.

    ReplyDelete
  137. A good plot, interesting character, and intriguing themes make a book captivating.

    ReplyDelete
  138. The characters. If they don't feel alive, it's hard to stay attached.

    misusedinnocence@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  139. The characters, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The plot, the writing, and the characters. If any of these are weak, the whole book suffers.

    ReplyDelete
  141. For me, it's really important to have more than one element. Like, if a book was just pure romance, I wouldn't find it all that interesting. Not only that but the writing has to be well done. Nothing bothers me more than a poorly written story.

    ReplyDelete
  142. whitout proper characters the plot will never keep my interest, and if i wanted half-assed writing i'd read fanfiction instead.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Everything from the story to the characters to the setting :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. The writing style. I've read a few books with great plots, but the writing and execution was so poor I couldn't enjoy the book.

    ReplyDelete
  145. It's uniqueness and new ideas. :) Thanks for the super awesome giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  146. A good plot with a unique storyline we have not read before, strong characters, and at least decent writing style, it should flow!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Great story line that isn't predictable with interesting characters and preferably a little romance thrown in.

    ReplyDelete
  150. A change to escape the reality/ the busy world

    ReplyDelete
  151. First of all, please let me say THANK YOU for this UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING giveaway!!! I'm just stunned at your generosity, I truly am. As well as the generosity of all the authors participating in the OTHER giveaways... because 100 books just wasn't enough, was it?! :)

Second, what makes a book captivating for me is world-building and characters with dimension and a true "voice" of their own. I mostly read sci-fi/fantasy and historical fiction, both of which really require excellent world-building and dynamic characters if they are going to work. That's why I never shy away from 400+ page books...often they're the best, because you truly get invested in the characters, the world, and the story!

    Thanks again, ladies!!

    ReplyDelete
  152. What makes a book captivating? Hmmm I'd have to say its the characters...if I don't find a character particularly interesting it's hard to continue reading even if the storyline seems good

    ReplyDelete
  153. I am captivated by the characters ALL of the time =)

    ReplyDelete
  154. What makes a book captivating is a wonderful and believable Story line, That is well written with great lead characters.

    ReplyDelete
  155. The plot and the characters make a book captivating :)

    ReplyDelete
  156. The characters for sure! If I don't relate to them then even if the book has the most interesting plot in the world I won't care. That isn't to say there doesn't need to be action as well, without action characters can never grow.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Most of the time, the cover will grab me first. Then, of course, the characters! I love a strong female - that doesn't quite know all of her value, but learns along the way.

    Thanks for this fabulous giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  158. the bad guy ... in some occasion or a good cute boy .... = romance

    ReplyDelete

  169. Hmmmmm...what makes a book captivating? Ithink for me it varies depending on my mood. Sometimes it's the believability of the characters, a good "who done it" plot, the conflict between the characters, or maybe it's a combination of all of those. I do have to say that the story has to open up early, define itself and not bog down or "waffle".

  170. What makes a book captivating to me is usually how the characters interact and develop. Characters are very important.

  171. I had to think about this for a moment. The most important thing for me is to engage with the characters. If they feel real to me and I feel as if I am in the story, then I usually can't put the book down. Of course, the plot needs to be good and well written also.
