I am captivated by the characters most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI usually love strong heroines, bad boys, and a great mystery or life-changing event!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
Plot twists and very, VERY good written love triangles.
ReplyDeleteA good story line and believable characters.
ReplyDeleteIt's got to have a mixture of good plot, decent characters, and also a decent setting. I'm picky. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love well developed characters, an unpredictable story and great world building if appropriate. Romance helps too!
ReplyDeleteThe characters are very important but i like to read about all the little details that could make the book that much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe writing is what makes it captivating for me. If the author can suck me in to a book even when it is a cliche plot or the same old vampires then you know its good.
ReplyDeleteInitially, its a combination of the cover, the blurb and what others are saying about it.
ReplyDeleteBut then when I'm reading, its how well the author draws me into the world of the book. Characters run it a close second.
Thanks for this giveaway opportunity.
Good world building always captivates me. Stories don't always have to be intense for me to enjoy them, but when they are, they are often the ones I don't want to put down.
ReplyDeleteI think the characters are very important to captivate the reader. Doesn't matter if the story line is UH-MAZING, if the characters aren't interesting enough, or strong enough, then I won't be able to stand them and I'll give up before I even start.
ReplyDeleteGood characters, which feel real... good writing, being a good page-turner xD
ReplyDeleteWhat captivates me is when writers capture real emotion and draw you into the characters' conflict.
ReplyDeleteWorld building, something original. That's what captivates me the most, if the plot is cliched, I can't stand it.
ReplyDeleteThe writing has to draw me in. I need to be able to lose myself in the world inside the story and with the characters. Also, something that is original and/or unusual helps too. Thanks for the EPIC giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteGreat characters are what pull me in! I love characters that are flawed and go through emotional journeys, which is something that also draws me to continue reading a story.
ReplyDeleteLovable and believable characters is what captivates me. I love bad boys too.
ReplyDeleteGot have suspense and definitely a lovable bad boy
ReplyDeleteDescriptions. Like a LOT of descriptions. And an interesting plotline~
ReplyDeleteNo whiny heroines. They have to be strong and capable. Or at least developed.
ReplyDeleteAmazing worldbuilding that make me feel like I'm there; deep characters that make me feel like I know them. :)
ReplyDeleteThe story is believable detailed and draws you in from the first page
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, the cover. Then, the blurb. After start reading it, the characters and the situations, even if it's a paranormal, or fantasy book, they have to be "normal". Credible. Real. That's what I like. I want a book to be as original as possible. The plot doesn't have to remind me another book. And that can catch my attention so much, that hurts me to put it down, si I'll never do until I read it all! :)
ReplyDeletefor me a book is captivating when I can visualize the story as I read. The more descriptive the text and writing style the better visual picture you can get.
ReplyDeleteMiranda
thanks for the awesome giveaway! I'd have to say I look for a story that I can lose myself in :)
ReplyDeleteThere's a wow factor in some books that make them beautiful and fascinating. Definitely a story that I can relate to. Books with depth. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm reading a story the characters and the storyline itself are what draws me in and keeps me reading. Without strong characters I tend to drift away from the book and have trouble picking it back up and getting into it. Thanks for this amazing giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGreat characters make a book hands down. I'll read about a strongly written character doing just about anything.
ReplyDeletegood story, beatiful cover and great characters :)
ReplyDeleteThe characters! Always the characters. A good story helps too....
ReplyDeleteThe characters, teh setting and a lot i can't guess after a few pages
ReplyDeleteIt is a mix of good character development and plot. Without alot of both, the book suffers and I am not drawn into it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good combination of good story, gripping prose and a theme that appeals to the reader.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this awesome chance! :-)
If a story is really good, that it makes you lost in another world. Great giveaway :) thank you
ReplyDeleteI like the characters- if they are written well- I feel like I know them.
ReplyDeleteAwesome contest- thank you for being so generous.
Adventure. Fantasy. The first page. I'll often times pick a book to read based on how I feel about the first page. Get the ball rolling, and then fill in the blanks.
ReplyDeleteThe plot, storyline and the characters.
ReplyDeleteCharacters are compelling to me but usually what keeps me captivated is the storyline itself.
ReplyDeleteThe book captivates me through its lovely cover ( I admit, I sometimes judge a book by its cover), the synopsis, hot fictional boys (to-good-to-be-true-and-are-swoon-worthy boys) and heroines that can stand on their own. Thanks for the giveaway! Happy love month!
ReplyDelete-Riz B.

ReplyDeletePlot & Characters.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion it's the characters. Some of them I like right away and that makes the reading process much better ^^
ReplyDelete@Tibiux
Vivid characters & engaging dialogue. I can forgive a lot of sins if the dialogue is good.
ReplyDeleteIt's always the characters that draw me in first. But if a book doesn't draw me in from the very beginning, I won't finish it.
ReplyDeleteI become captivated most often by the author's writing style. It doesn't matter if I didn't find the story enjoyable, I would still read other books by the same person as long as I enjoyed their effort.
ReplyDeleteThe stories in books are so different from my life. I get to live through them and have thousands of different lives, some good, some bad. It's amazing :)
ReplyDeleteEngaging characters and a strong plot :)
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's characters. Plot, writing, scene setting; none of that matters unless you have well developed, engaging characters.
ReplyDeletethe characters, first I read some reviews, and i like some books for their covers or authors!
ReplyDeletethanks!! great prizes!!
Energetic characters.
ReplyDeleteA great, convincing romance will make any book captivating.
ReplyDeleteThe ability of the author to create a world and make it believable :)
ReplyDeleteThe story and the characters and being able to relate to it. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteA fascinating, unique story line & characters that you have a vested interest in.
ReplyDeleteHi!!!
ReplyDeleteI think a good story is the most important thing about a book. :D
Thanks for the chance ^^
I like books with small chapters. Makes me always want to read "just one more"...
ReplyDeleteGot have suspense :)
ReplyDeleteThe plot has to be intriguing and I must be able to get a sense of the storyline within the first few chapters. The book has to be well written and the characters have to be well developed and interesting.
ReplyDeleteA completely captivating book would have all those elements.
I am captivated by the suspense of the book.
ReplyDeleteStrong female leads!
ReplyDeleteMary
Interesting characters who make you question the world and think about it in a new way.
ReplyDeleteThe characters!
ReplyDeleteInteresting story and strong characters :) and a bit of romance ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this awesome giveaway :)
Strong and funny heroines, great plot and twists, perfect bad boy, romance and action :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing characters, a beautiful story, and just the right amount of detail.
ReplyDeleteA book captivates me when it has endearing characters, a great storyline, a bad guy you love to hate, a champion you cheer for and that the book itself is written so well that you almost cry when the book ends.
ReplyDeleteCompelling story, strong characters and a wonderful writing
ReplyDeleteBelievable, interesting characters with a solid, intriguing story. Magic is also a huge plus. Books need several things to be truly captivating.
ReplyDeleteA certain level of predictability. It's got to have a shocking twist to capture my attention. :)
ReplyDeleteFor me it is all about the relationship of the main characters. That is what hooks me into a story every time
ReplyDeleteStrong heroines and a good thrilling fiction are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's about the characters first, though an unusual setting and beautiful prose are helpful!
ReplyDeleteeai(At)stanfordalumni(dot)org
For me there must be a lot plot to make me scream. Definitely has a alpha male. And most definitely heroine must go through rough times.
ReplyDeleteThe story and the characters :)
ReplyDeletea great plot and believable characters
ReplyDeleteA book can be captivating if it has realistic heroes and heroines and a plot that can hold readers' interest.
ReplyDeleteI love well written characters.
ReplyDeleteAn original plot and a great heroes:)
ReplyDeleteCharacters that are believable and loveable, even when obnoxious. That can overshadow a bad plot line for me.
ReplyDeleteSuspense! I love suspenseful novels, something that will make me stay up until the middle of the night reading because I can't put it down. Lol
ReplyDeleteUnforgettable characters and an intriguing story.
ReplyDeleteThe characters and the interaction between them are the most important thing for me.
ReplyDeleteThe characters have to be real to me. I want to know them and feel what they feel.
ReplyDeleteGreat & sarcastic characters and well-written. A story that has me escaping from my reality. =)
ReplyDeleteI am most captivated by books in which authors can make you feel a certain way. If a book can make me laugh out loud or cry, I think thats what grabs me.
ReplyDeleteoddball2003 at hotmail dot com
gripping plot twists and humorous writing style
ReplyDeleteThe cover gets my attention and then I love strong characters and thier descriptions so that I can relate to them.
ReplyDeleteThe characters and the drama!
ReplyDeleteThe charisma of the characters or lack thereof make for a great novel.
ReplyDeleteAt first sight, what is most captivating would be seemingly obvious - its cover.. Reading the book, what is most captivating [for me] is the romance and the plot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this awesome giveaway! :)
A fast paced plot and well developed characters! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletecharacters I want to read more about
ReplyDeleteThe characters and plot
ReplyDeletemarypopmom (at) yahoo (dot) com
I think the author makes the book captivating because the author creates the story. The world in the book is also the author's world and if she/he is not captivated by it, how could anyone else be? The author is the reason the characters are so engaging and if the author doesn't feel like she is one with her characters, then they are, most likely, going to seem flat. That's my opinion anyway :).
ReplyDeleteI think the book is the theme, because it clearly I have to draw attention to read it apart if I know the author already are more or less going to be written as
ReplyDeleteIf the book has a compelling storyline and just as compelling main characters! In my books, that's what makes a book so amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesomesauce giveaway! :)
The storyline needs to be original and the characters can't be whiny or helpless.
ReplyDeleteFor me it is a book that has characters that I like and would want to know in the real world regardless of the fictional setting. I want to laugh and cry and feel that rush with the action. Thank you for sharing this awesome giveaway fun.
ReplyDeleteI like strong character, with deep and soul. Also a good story, but even if it's a weak one good character make them better (but if the story is bad most of the times the character are too)
ReplyDeleteA good, strong protagonist and an unpredictable plot!
ReplyDeletethe small details...the ones that make you feel like you're right there, like you would feel if you were that character.
ReplyDeleteabrennan09@hotmail.com
Well developed characters and an interesting plot are what makes a book captivating in my opinion
ReplyDeleteA good character and a well developed plot. :)
ReplyDeleteThe characters, the plot, and the setting, they all have to pull me into the book. I tend to devour books that captivate in one or two days :)
ReplyDeleteThe character and a good plot is what captivates me.
ReplyDeleteWhat captivates me the most in a book are the characters and their personalities. I could have the plot and I could dislike the genre but if the characters are these snarky, funny people than I fall for them and nothing else matters.. Well, okay.. the plot matters a lot and the genre too but I fall for the characters and the world they live in. That's why I have a favorite age group I like to read in and a favorite type of characters. If that even makes sense..
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thanks for the incredible giveaway and for making it international!
Thank you for this amazing amazing giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI think that well developed, interesting characters really help a book be captivating. I have found that even when there is a lull in the story line or even if it starts going off in a direction that I'm not liking, I'll still stick with the book if I love the main character. And those books that have a fantastic storylines, but where the characters are lacking, I have a harder time sticking through it.
Good strong characters with an appealing storyline.
ReplyDeleteKathy Faberge
Usually the plot and the emotional feelings the book contains (or not), how I relate to the book
ReplyDeleteA kick-butt protag and a healthy dose of conflict. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great giveaway
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the characters!!!!!And of course the plot as a whole!!!
ReplyDeleteI always like a lot of action and romance!
ReplyDeleteI always think its the characters and their connections to each other as well as the plot.
ReplyDeleteThe characters and the plot!
ReplyDeletethe characters and the story line definitely
ReplyDeleteThis is the most amazing thing i have ever seen
ReplyDeleteI am captivated by the words. The syntax. The thought. The beauty.
ReplyDeleteI'm captivated by well-rounded characters and a strong plot.
ReplyDeleteRelationships between characters
ReplyDeleteInteresting plot and believable characters.
ReplyDeleteI find different things captivating: good characters, excellent writing, snappy and witty dialogue, a unique and interesting plot. Not every book has all of these elements, but if I find any combination, I'll usually like the novel.
ReplyDeletePlot and characters, with a few poetic little descriptions scattered here and there :)
ReplyDeleteThank you tor the awesome giveaway......
ReplyDeleteThis giveaway is awesome, thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love deeply developed characters and a richly detailed setting.
The interaction between the characters. I think that it has to start with a special interaction to captivate me
ReplyDeleteAmazing characters and their interactions, awesome world-building, thick and juicy plots, mystery and suspense, creepiness, a little bit of romance..... There are so many things that need to be in a book to make it UNPUTDOWNABLE. The recipe for a great book is longer than any recipe for any food or dessert on the planet. A book can be good, but it takes something special to make it great.
ReplyDeletea combination of likable characters and an awesome storyline!
ReplyDeleteThe ability to take me to another place and time.
ReplyDeleteCharacters for me.
ReplyDeleteA book is captivating when the universe is dragging you into the book... Thanks a lot for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love books that takes me away from reality and let's me focus on something else for a while.
ReplyDeleteFor me book is captivating when it has at elast 50% of action or mystery inside.. I can't be captivated just by simply romance book >.<
ReplyDeleteInteresting, well developed characters (esp. the narrator/protagonist) and an intriguing premise. :)
ReplyDeleteI am captivated by the relationships, whether they be romantic or friendship. If they are well written, I will probably love the book. Going further, if the book spends a lot of time with the MC by his or her self, then I will probably not like the book.
ReplyDeleteReal relationships!!! REAL ways that people connect. No whiny poor me type, girls. No dark and mysterious boys.
ReplyDeleteFor me it comes down to how well written it is. How well the writer creates the world they are portraying, often even while asking the reader to suspend belief or reality. It has to draw me in to that world completely.
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with a great plot combined with well written characters.
ReplyDeleteThe characters and the scenery the author paints on the reader's mind :D
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a book captivating?
ReplyDeleteWell, a great plot, for one. Can't stand awful plots. However, I feel that a great author will sometimes tip the balance in favor of the book.
Also, the characters. Cardboard characters are the most awfulest things in existence.
...Well, it all depends on the book. Every book is different with its appeal, and every book has different things that can hook onto the reader's heart.
The adventure you get from a book is what makes it.
ReplyDeleteI think love triangles(when done right) and enoyable loveable characters (:
ReplyDeleteFor me its the characters and plot. Its the story that grabs you and wont let you go :)
ReplyDeleteIts originality.
ReplyDeleteWhile the story fresher, more interesting is. The characters are the reason why you fall for a book.
:)
The characters!
ReplyDeleteA book that keeps me interested and invested in the character's struggle.
ReplyDeleteA good plot, interesting character, and intriguing themes make a book captivating.
ReplyDeleteThe characters. If they don't feel alive, it's hard to stay attached.
ReplyDeletemisusedinnocence@aol.com
The characters, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe plot, the writing, and the characters. If any of these are weak, the whole book suffers.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's really important to have more than one element. Like, if a book was just pure romance, I wouldn't find it all that interesting. Not only that but the writing has to be well done. Nothing bothers me more than a poorly written story.
ReplyDeletewhitout proper characters the plot will never keep my interest, and if i wanted half-assed writing i'd read fanfiction instead.
ReplyDeleteEverything from the story to the characters to the setting :)
ReplyDeleteThe writing style. I've read a few books with great plots, but the writing and execution was so poor I couldn't enjoy the book.
ReplyDeleteIt's uniqueness and new ideas. :) Thanks for the super awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteA good plot with a unique storyline we have not read before, strong characters, and at least decent writing style, it should flow!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
raffle name: Nikki O
I LOVE a good story. Suspense is a plus and character definition is another must :)
ReplyDeleteA good plot with interesting characters, and for me it always needs to be moving forward. I can't stand to not see any progress, especially in series.
ReplyDeleteGreat story line that isn't predictable with interesting characters and preferably a little romance thrown in.
ReplyDeleteA change to escape the reality/ the busy world
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, please let me say THANK YOU for this UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING giveaway!!! I'm just stunned at your generosity, I truly am. As well as the generosity of all the authors participating in the OTHER giveaways... because 100 books just wasn't enough, was it?! :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, what makes a book captivating for me is world-building and characters with dimension and a true "voice" of their own. I mostly read sci-fi/fantasy and historical fiction, both of which really require excellent world-building and dynamic characters if they are going to work. That's why I never shy away from 400+ page books...often they're the best, because you truly get invested in the characters, the world, and the story!
Thanks again, ladies!!
What makes a book captivating? Hmmm I'd have to say its the characters...if I don't find a character particularly interesting it's hard to continue reading even if the storyline seems good
ReplyDeleteI am captivated by the characters ALL of the time =)
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a book captivating is a wonderful and believable Story line, That is well written with great lead characters.
ReplyDeleteThe plot and the characters make a book captivating :)
ReplyDeleteThe characters for sure! If I don't relate to them then even if the book has the most interesting plot in the world I won't care. That isn't to say there doesn't need to be action as well, without action characters can never grow.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, the cover will grab me first. Then, of course, the characters! I love a strong female - that doesn't quite know all of her value, but learns along the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this fabulous giveaway!
the bad guy ... in some occasion or a good cute boy .... = romance
ReplyDeleteThe cover and the blurb, especially if it has a myserious vibe to it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this awesome opportunity!
ReplyDeleteA book is definitely captivating with a good plot and characters that come to life.
ReplyDeleteThe chance to escape into someone else's reality/happy ending always captivates me! :)
ReplyDeleteI love twists and turns. I like it when a book has the unexpected. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing world-building and characterization makes a book captivating!
ReplyDeleteSuspense and tension! If there's nothing keep a character from getting what they want, why would I even want to read the book?
ReplyDeleteGood character to believe in, great world building and a twist for supense.
ReplyDeleteThe ability to draw me into the story and keep me reading.
ReplyDeleteFor me, a well-written and believable character is fascinating!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...what makes a book captivating? Ithink for me it varies depending on my mood. Sometimes it's the believability of the characters, a good "who done it" plot, the conflict between the characters, or maybe it's a combination of all of those. I do have to say that the story has to open up early, define itself and not bog down or "waffle".
ReplyDeletethe plot and the characters. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a book captivating to me is usually how the characters interact and develop. Characters are very important.
ReplyDeleteI had to think about this for a moment. The most important thing for me is to engage with the characters. If they feel real to me and I feel as if I am in the story, then I usually can't put the book down. Of course, the plot needs to be good and well written also.
ReplyDeletePlot and unique characters that you can either relate to or feel for. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the grand giveaway :D
ReplyDeleteA good plot and likeable/loveable characters.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing story.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it starts with a good cover - I'm a cover addict - and, of course, an incredible story.
ReplyDeletea good plot, a superb twists, and lovable characters.
ReplyDeleteA lot of factors go into making a book completely captivating, I think. The author's writing quality/style, good characters, and a good story. Thanks for this amazing giveaway!! :)
ReplyDeleteA good cover and absolutly a big story with many branches
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a book captivating is the story's ability to draw us, and put us into its world. It's so easy to get lost in a book, and it's very fun.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it all starts with a cover, I'm sucker for a pretty cover. :) But mostly, it's a mixture of a captivating plot and great characters that I can relate to or have feelings for.
ReplyDeleteCharacters, who are well developed, lovable, relatable and just plain awesome. An exciting plot. Surprising twists.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this awesome giveaway!
wow those are a lot of books!!
ReplyDeleteI honestly like nice covers xP great and original story and settings. :D
ReplyDeletea good storyline, interesting charaters and the cover! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI like main characters with a strong personality
ReplyDeleteCharacters you can care about and a great plot.
ReplyDelete
