  1. I think that the books anyone chooses to read are their personal choice and nobody has a right to dissuade others from reading a particular book just because they don't approve of it.

  2. If you really feel that your child shouldn't be reading a book. Then that is your choice, but don't take away the book from every child by having it removed from a school library.

  3. That's a tough subject. Some books I see it would benefit the child to learn more about it, but on the other hand I don't want my child reading Fifty Shades of Grey. I guess it depends on the book and subject matter. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway.

  4. I don't think most books should be banned; I think that people should have the freedom to read what they want. I think parents should be able to censor what their kids read a little bit when they're younger, and elementary school libraries should be able to ban very inappropriate books for little kids such as 50 shades of grey. Overall though, when people get older they should be able to choose what to read.

  5. As a high school librarian, it is something I constantly fear. I choose what I think my students want to read. Please don't make that choice for everyone.

  6. I don't believe books should be banned. However, I also don't believe 50 Shades should ever be found on a school library's shelf (not that any school librarian would do something like that)

Parents should monitor what their children read of course and I'm sure that there are numerous resources out there for them to help them make decisions about what they feel is appropriate for their own child to read (not that they won't find a way to read it on their own if they really want to). I don't think it is okay for one parent to make that decision for someone else's child or for a few parents to choose what is appropriate reading material for an entire school district.

Lastly, the parents that want books banned for violence and strong language are so naive. If your kid is going to a school with other kids or sporting events with other adults or has access to TV or movies, they are being exposed to those things. Acting like they don't exist will not make it so.

  7. Everyone should have the right to choose what they read. If you don't like it, don't read it.

  8. It's ridiculous. Just don't read the book that offends you. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

  9. I don't think that books should be banned. I think that you should either not read it if you don't like it, or write something with your own opinions (which someone else will likely not like!)

  10. I'm against banning books. I think everyone should have the freedom to choose what they will and will not read.

  11. I don't agree with banning books. I agree that some books need to be limited to certain age groups but to literary ban a book - no.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I feel like some books have no need to be banned. The only thing that I agree with why a book is banned is the book content not being right for the age group. :D

  13. I totally could not believe some of the books that have been banned...
Honestly, I don't think any book should be banned for any reason. People should be able to choose for themselves what they want to read.

    ReplyDelete
  14. i feel like everything an author writes is placed there with purpose and intent and the fact that people ban books for certain content is really detrimental to the message of those particular books!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't agree with book banning at all. The things I don't care for I stay away from. That's just my opinion, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't believe that books should be banned or censored but I also believe that it's up to parents and librarians to know/use common sense for what's age appropriate. But then again, that's a slippery slope too.

  17. Nothing should be banned!

  18. I don't think any book should be banned. The only person who should be able to decide what another person can read is parents for a minor child. Once a person is an adult, no one should be able to tell them what they can and can not read.

  19. We can only banned what we read. For anyone else, it's up to their choise. We can only advise on what the book really are from the review. So if in doubt, ASK!

  20. I don't think ANY book should be banned, no matter what the content. However, I do think it's a good idea for parents to keep an eye on what their children are reading - to make sure it's age appropiate. But mostly, I don't even think it should be monitored at all - its the readers choice and their choice alone to what sort of books they read.

  21. Books should not be banned. Parents have the right to restrict some book to their young children. But no one should have the say to what an adult should or should not read.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think not only books should never be banned because one must have the choice to read what one wants, but also, the most people ban a book, the most many people will want to read it, it's like publicizing the book imo.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I support primarily parental restrictions on children.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think parents have the right to decide which books THEIR children read, but not other people's children. I do not believe in banning books. Of course, I expect librarians to make good choices when choosing books for their library-an elementary school library should only have books appropriate for the age group in that school. But to single an age appropriate book out because a parent or group of parents don't want their child(ren) to read it is wrong. Thank you for the giveaway!

  25. Parents should be able to monitor what their kids read without restricting the choices of others. Parenting starts at home!

  26. It depends on what book.Like at my end,a conservative country,it is alright to ban books as long as it is my own child.Educating my kids is my primary concern. But,as an adult,I have all the right to choose on what sort of book I want to read.

  27. I do not believe in censorship of reading material. I think that as a parent you can (and should) monitor your own child's reading (or at least know what he/she is reading) but it's not right to limit what other people can read based on your opinion/beliefs. Not everyone has the same belief system, the same values, the same opinions. What I deem okay for my child to read another parent may not. That's their right, but not their right to say my child can't read it. :)

  28. I would love Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. The books and reasoning on the banned book list are almost tongue-in-cheek ridiculous!!! lol.
    thanks!

  29. I don't believe in banning books. I believe as far as kids/teens go, that it should be up to the parents. Let the parents educate themselves and judge what their kids can read and when, but don't go overboard and stifle a reader who's bored with their age-stuff and wants to move on to Stephen King. Just be there to discuss issues that may arise. That's how I work it out with my kids. As far as I am concerned no book is banned in my house, you just may have to wait until you're a little older. For example my 8-year-old wants to read The Hunger Games, and while he could read it, I don't feel he should read it yet. My oldest read it in 5th grade and we discussed.

And adults, they can choose to read whatever they want. I don't want anyone telling me what I can and cannot read.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think banning books is a truly reprehensible practice, which should be stopped immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Books for adults should never be banned.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm shock to see some of the books that are being banned, I think everyone has the right to read what they like. The parent should monitor what they kids read because removing a book for a school library isn't going to keep the reader away from the book he/she wants to read.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think that others should be able to impose their disliking of a book on others. They are basing their dislike for a book on their opinion and beliefs.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't believe any book should ever be banned. That's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  35. People should be able to read whatever they want.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think it's up to parents, not schools or libraries. Banning is a futile effort.

    ReplyDelete
  37. While not all books are suitable for all ages, I think parents who wish to keep their kids from reading something should stick to only controlling what their own kids read. And, of course, adults should be allowed to make their own decision as to what to read!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe some books should be banned, but i think everyone should have the right to choose what they read.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think people should be able to decide for themselves what they should / should not read and that it should be a personal choice

    ReplyDelete
  40. Reading is my choice and I don't want anyone telling me what I should read or should not read

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think no book should ever be banned no matter the reason. Don't like it, don't read it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think books should EVER be banned, most especially not by these tiny (or even big, sometimes) local school districts and sometimes even public libraries who wish to keep kids' minds closed and narrow. It's shameful!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Books should not be banned. Just open your minds people.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Books should never be banned. Everyone should have the right to read whatever books they choose.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Books shouldn't be banned. It's better to discuss it then omit it to all.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never read a banned book yet, but am looking forward to it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. i think banned books are silly, i think in fact it can make a book more popular, some of my favorites are banned books but i didn't even know they were banned

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't really think books should be banned. If people want to read them then they'll read them. If it's about what kids are reading then that's up to the parents.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Everyone should have the opportunity to read what they want and I think banning books is a waste of time.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think parents should determine what their children are old enough or mature enough to read.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would choose Blind Submission by Debra Ginsburg.
    Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't believe in censorship of any type of entertainment media. Only parents/guardians should monitor what their kids read/watch/listen to and, even then, to a point.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am against banning books. I think parents need to pay attention to their children and what they are reading and make the appropriate choices for them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Adults are capable of deciding for themselves which books to read, and those decisions must not be taken away from them.

Parents are the only ones who have the right and responsibility to decide which books their children should read, and those decisions must not be taken away from them.

    ReplyDelete
  55. people should read whatever they want

    ReplyDelete
  56. There shouldn't be any banned books. Everybody should have the right to choose their choice of reading material.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't like the idea of banned books--I have the right to read what I want, and I think everyone should have that right. As to banning in schools and libraries, I think it should be the parents' choice on what their children can or cannot read.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm strongly against banning books. If you don't agree with something that is in a book, don't read it, but you you have no right to keep others from reading it. Parents have the responsibility of knowing what is right for their own kids, but not others kids. I'm a school psychologist and I am always telling parents and people in general, if you are concerned about what is in a book, instead of forbidding your kid to read it, read it yourself!!! Your kid, or your kid's friends, or classmates are going through all of these things (well except for maybe being a vampire ;) ), so instead of making the topics taboo, talk to them about it. Talk about why it is a bad decision for two characters to have sex too soon.

  59. I'm totally and completely against banning books. Freedom of speech! And individuals should be free to read whatever they prefer.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think books should be banned. I really disagree with censorship because everyone should be able to think for themselves.
