Your New Money Mindset is a new way of thinking about the role money plays in our lives. Many of us live with ongoing, and often unexamined, tension related to money. Few of us have really escaped the credit-card trap or freed ourselves from worries about having enough for the future. Brad Hewitt, CEO of Thrivent Financial, and James Moline, consulting psychologist, believe we haven't spent enough time examining our fundamental attitudes toward money. In Your New Money Mindset, Jim and Brad guide you through a Money Mindset Assessment, which will pinpoint what attitudes about money you should work on developing in order to achieve financial freedom. The goal is to cultivate a surplus mindset that allows you to enjoy what you have and be openhearted toward others. Discover today how to create a healthy relationship with money.
Goodreads Summary
It's always helpful to educate yourself on money matters. If we're honest with ourselves, there is always something we could learn. So many families, students, etc...have fallen into credit card traps and the mentality of "I'll pay it off later" or "but I want it now." I could see how changing how money is perceived could help with how you manage your money. I liked that this book was different than what I expected and did offer some solid advice. I could see a college student or even a high school student reading this book and gleaning pertinent facts from it. To truly get something from the book, you will have to be honest about your spending habits. I'm a huge saver and liked that the book encouraged wise spending. The charity aspect was heart-warming and reminded me to give a little more this year. Overall, this book is recommended to adult readers.

Once comfortable on stage in front of
thousands, Joely Crockett is now mortified at the thought of walking—or
rolling—down the aisle at her sisters’ wedding. Scarred and wheelchair-bound,
the former beauty queen has lost more than the ability to walk—she’s lost her
fire. But when one handsome, arrogant guest accuses her of milking her injuries
and ignites her ire, Joely finally starts to feel truly alive again, and soon
it’s impossible for her to resist her heart’s desire.
Alec Morrissey knows a little something about
loss. A famous rodeo cowboy before he was injured in Iraq, he’s managed to
create something of a normal life, even if it’s not the one he always imagined.
Encountering stunning but damaged Joely, he sees a kindred spirit who can learn
from his mistakes.
As these two healing souls begin to fall in
love under the Wyoming stars, they must discover if they are willing to give in
to the tragedies of life or fight for a future together.

EXCERPT
“Warm
enough?” he asked. “Your back’s okay?”
“I’m
plenty warm. And my back aches. It’ll be fine in the morning.”
“What
would make it fine now?”
“Sven
the masseur?”
He
chuckled. “Your version of the cabana boy fantasy, huh? Fine, I can do Sven.”
She’d been joking; he was not. “Come on. Stretch out on your stomach.”
She
started to turn and changed her mind. “What about you?”
“I’m
fantastic. I have a beautiful woman about to let me touch her wherever I want
to.”
“Wait,
I never said that.”
She
wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, long and deep, taking the
lead, pushing him onto his back instead of following his directive. When he
groaned and pulled her to lie on top of him, she broke the kiss. She’d done it
now, and her nerves almost got the better of her. Instead she closed her eyes
and took a brave breath.
“Your
leg has to be killing you,” she said. “I’m worried about it. I have no idea how
to ask you about it because you never say anything, so I’m just blurting it
out.”
“My
leg is okay,” he said.
“You
haven’t taken off the prosthetic in two days.”
“I
have. Didn’t you wonder what the heck took a guy so long in the woods at
night?” He took his turn kissing her, and she reveled, not just in his kiss but
in the breadth of him beneath her. And in the swift, undeniable swell that
proved what power her mouth had over him. Thrills pooled low in her pelvis.
The
next words hung in her throat for a long time. If she said them, she’d have to
be willing to offer the same in return. Her greatest fear rose in front of her.
“I
want to know all of you. I want you to . . . trust me.”
“I
haven’t wanted to weird you out.”
The
words were light, slightly jokey, and still she clearly heard the underlying
tension.
“That’s just dumb, Alec. Weird? It’s not
weird. It’s you.”
Did she mean it? Of course she did. Then
how could she do anything but open herself up in return? No matter how much it
scared her.
“You’ve never made love to a one-legged
guy.”
Fear flared hot just before her grin broke
loose. “Am I about to?”
He pulled her back down against him and
ran his hands over her seat, pulling her tight and rolling his hips. “It might
be too soon.”
She rested one elbow beside his ear,
brushing his hair back with the other hand, drinking in the texture with her
fingertips. “I’m afraid to let you see, too.”
“See what?” A light, perhaps one of
hopefulness, brightened his eyes.
“I have more scars than the one you’ve
seen on my face.” She stopped combing through his hair. The breath she took
this time was shakier than any so far. “I’d show you mine if you show me yours.
Let’s be weirded out together.” The words were silly, and her heart skittered
around her ribcage—a scared bird that had trapped itself.

All About Imps by Henry Herz: Guest Post!

According to German mythology, imps are lesser goblins who
often seek humans on whom to commit mischievous, not evil, acts. Imps are
described as small, wild and willful; in some cultures they are synonymous with
fairies. They are sometimes depicted as unattractive small demons. Although
immortal, imps could be harmed with magical weapons or kept out of one’s house
with magical wards.
There’s a certain pathos associated with imps, as their
mischief is meant to attract human attention and friendship, but typically
produces the opposite effect. Even in “successful” situations, the imp remains
true to its nature, and continues to play pranks on its human host. Hence the
term “impish” is often used today to describe someone who is a trickster or
practical joker.
Given their quasi-demonic appearance, some believed that
imps were servants of witches and warlocks, sometimes known as familiars. Such
familiars, in the form of the all-too-common black cat, black dog, or toad,
were considered proof of witchcraft during the era of witch hunts. Science!!
Imp legend in some cases associates imps with an object.
Some imps were kept within a container, like a bottle or lamp. Others were not
contained within, but magically bound to an object like a sword or jewel.
Imps could be considered the alter-egos of the far more
helpful brownies (not to be confused with young girl scouts or a delicious
chocolatey treat). According to Scottish and English folklore, brownies are
small humanoids that inhabit unused portions of houses, such as attics,
basements, or within the walls. Brownies help with the household chores, but
because they don’t like to be seen, they work at night. They appreciate gifts
of food, particularly honey, porridge and dairy products. But brownies may
depart the home if their gifts are referred to as payments, or if the human
occupants mistreat them. It seems like a brownie would be a natural solution to
an imp infestation.
Imps appear in the games Forgotten Realms and Dungeons &
Dragon, and in the books THE BOTTLE IMP by Robert Louis Stevenson, LIVES OF THE
NECROMANCER by William Godwin, THE IMP AND THE CRUST by Leo Tolstoy, The Oz
series by L. Frank Baum, and MONSTER GOOSE NURSERY RHYMES by Henry Herz.
Henry Herz's latest picture book, published by Pelican (32
pages), is WHEN YOU GIVE AN IMP A PENNY. Before you lend an imp a penny,
there’s something you should know—such a simple act of generosity could set off
a side-splitting chain of events! A colorful picture book full of mythology,
mischief, and magic, WHEN YOU GIVE AN IMP A PENNY shows us just what happens
when an accident-prone—but well-intentioned—imp comes along asking for favors!
The same writer/illustrator duo that brought you MONSTER GOOSE NURSERY RHYMES brings
to life a comedy of fabled proportions.
From tracking mud on the floor to setting the broom on fire,
this clumsy little imp causes accidents wherever he goes, but he’s determined
make things right again. The only thing it will cost his host is a little
patience—and maybe a bit of time cleaning up some messes! It won’t be long
before this troublemaker has won over the entire family (except for the cat)
with his irrepressible charm. Herz’s whimsical prose and Larson’s bold
illustrations make this tale a laugh from beginning to end—and then again!

STARFLIGHT Launch Blitz & Giveaway

I’m author Melissa Landers, and I’m
thrilled to announce the release of STARFLIGHT, the first in a brand new sci-fi
series from Disney-Hyperion. I originally pitched this story to my editor as
“Overboard” (one of my favorite romantic comedies) meets “Firefly” (an amazing
show that was tragically cancelled after one season). STARFLIGHT follows the misadventures
of Solara Brooks, a penniless felon who indentures herself to her high school nemesis,
Doran Spaulding, in exchange for passage to a new world. But when Doran’s
memory is temporarily erased, Solara convinces him their roles are
reversed—that she’s the master and he’s the servant—and leads him onto a renegade
spaceship, where intergalactic shenanigans ensue. STARFLIGHT is very different
in tone from the Alienated trilogy, but the story is still filled with all the
things I love: humor, heart, and adventure.
What do reviewers have to say?
“Get ready for blast-off! Action-packed
and utterly addictive, nobody writes like Melissa Landers. A smart, satisfying
romance set in a vividly detailed world, Starflight was just plain fun!” –New
York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman
“Teens
will be bracing themselves during the swashbuckling action scenes. A great
choice for fans of raw sci-fi action, reminiscent of the lawlessness presented
in the television series Firefly.” –School Library Journal
“A lively tale of romance, space
pirates, conspiracy, and made (as opposed to genetic) families.” –Booklist
If you like your sci-fi adventure served
with a side of romance, I hope you’ll pick up a copy of STARFLIGHT today. It’s
now available in stores and online.
