"FAE"

EDITED BY RHONDA PARRISH

Alpena, MI (May 8, 2014) – World Weaver Press (Eileen Wiedbrauk, Editor-in-Chief) has announced Fae, a new anthology of fairy stories from classic tales to urban fantasy, edited by Rhonda Parrish, will be available in trade paperback and ebook Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Meet Robin Goodfellow as you’ve never seen him before, watch damsels in distress rescue themselves, get swept away with the selkies and enjoy tales of hobs, green men, pixies and phookas. One thing is for certain, these are not your grandmother’s fairy tales. Fairies have been both mischievous and malignant creatures throughout history. They’ve dwelt in forests, collected teeth or crafted shoes. Fae is full of stories that honor that rich history while exploring new and interesting takes on the fair folk from castles to computer technologies and modern midwifing, the Old World to Indianapolis. Fae covers a vast swath of the fairy story spectrum, making the old new and exploring lush settings with beautiful prose and complex characters. Enjoy the familiar feeling of a good old-fashioned fairy tale alongside urban fantasy and horror with a fae twist.
With an introduction by Sara Cleto and Brittany Warman, and new stories from Sidney Blaylock Jr., Amanda Block, Kari Castor, Beth Cato, Liz Colter, Rhonda Eikamp, Lor Graham, Alexis A. Hunter, L.S. Johnson, Jon Arthur Kitson, Adria Laycraft, Lauren Liebowitz, Christine Morgan, Shannon Phillips, Sara Puls, Laura VanArendonk Baugh, and Kristina Wojtaszek.
Fae

will be available in trade paperback and ebook via Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, Kobo.com, and other online retailers, and for wholesale through Ingram. You can also find Fae on Goodreads.

Brazen by Katherine Longshore

Mary Howard has always lived in the shadow of her powerful family. But when she’s married off to Henry Fitzroy, King Henry VIII’s illegitimate son, she rockets into the Tudor court’s inner circle. Mary and “Fitz” join a tight clique of rebels who test the boundaries of court’s strict rules with their games, dares, and flirtations. The more Mary gets to know Fitz, the harder she falls for him, but is forbidden from seeing him alone. The rules of court were made to be pushed…but pushing them too far means certain death. Is true love worth dying for?

Goodreads Summary

Those familiar with this time in history that truly enjoy reading on the royal families will feel right at home with this novel. We have deceit, secret love, and betrayal all wrapped up in a very well written package. The history is very intense and the romance is steamy enough to keep readers into this genre captivated and interested all the way through.

The danger is real and the tension is so thick at times, that not even the sharpest knife could cut through very easily. You don't play games in Henry VIII's court and when fishy business starts, the interesting part of the story begins. I really liked the historical fiction and diving into the world of the royal families as this is a rich time of history that always interests me. Whether or not the details of the story are 100% true to history, the details the author adds to the writing allow the readers to have an amazing mental image of the scenery and what is going on. You should definitely look into "Brazen," and let the royal games begin.

Adrenaline Crush by Laurie Boyle Crompton

When a daredevil teen pushes herself too far, she must choose between two boys: the one who wants to keep her safe, and the one who dares her to return to her old self.

Seventeen-year-old Dyna comes from a family of risk takers and is an avid thrill-seeker herself, until the day she splinters her ankle in a terrible fall. Her whole life goes from mountain biking and rock climbing to sitting at home and attending group sessions at the bizarre alternative healing center that her hippie mother found. The boy who witnessed Dyna’s accident believes her injury is a wakeup call and he encourages her mild new lifestyle, but a young Afghanistan War veteran she meets at the healing center pushes her to start taking chances again. Forced to face the consequences of her daredevil impulses, Dyna finds herself in danger of risking the one thing she’s always treated with caution—her heart.

Goodreads Summary

This is your daredevil that is forced to calm down because of an injury. I can relate a lot and I am sure that there are many of us adrenaline junkies who have been "grounded," because of an injury. We also get a love triangle thrown into the mix that keeps the story fresh and the reader truly wondering which fork will be taken in Dayna's path. Will she jump the cliff again, or succumb to a more sedentary lifestyle?

I liked Dayna a lot as a character. She is a risk taking extreme sports athlete that doesn't take a second in her day to slow down. Those of you who can relate will really feel for her when her big injury happens and she goes to the healing center. You really get the feel for young confused love as well with the good boy bad boy choice that she faces. It seems like a typical set up for a book that has been written a thousand times, however the author keeps it fresh with believable characters and interesting back stories.
